I am running an FT1000MP Mk5 at 40w output during rtty contests and the fan runs almost constantly and it gets hot. My understanding of the MP manual is that I can run it at 100w out for long periods

The best radio for RTTY contesting is an IC-756 Pro series, which the Pro2 can be had for the $1500-$2000 range. The TPF filter mode is the best there is for RTTY rx. The band scope is invaluable onc
