It still sounds to me based on your original comments that the noise you are hearing is actually originating in the PA of the other radio, not as a result of lack of selectivity or front-end overload

You might want to check for other sources of RF feedback. I found that the headphones were a source and placing a toroid just before the connector fixed the problem. TT later came out with a mod boar
