I have a 585 Paragon and it is exactly the same. You CAN set the PBT to 12 o'clock and keep it there, but shifting it for USB or LSB as you describe tends to center it audio in the available bandwidt

My 585 Paragon (S/N 70A10182) originally had a Ten Tec ROM chip labeled "8161 v 4.0" which indicated it had the new Major Loop board (81338 Rev C) installed. It was replaced with a Giehl v.6.0 chip.
