I'll pop this out here to see if anyone has any good explanations for what I experienced. As I said in a prior post, I proudly produced my freshly aligned, roofing-filter equipped, vintage (high seri

Kim, May be "apples and oranges" here, but have you ever looked at the AC waveform at the base of a typical cheap CFL on a scope? It's not pretty - the switching PS in them puts a lot of garbage back

Also consider that the line impedance from the commercial source is likely much lower than the generator. Generators don't like rapid load changes such as trying to follow the waveform of a SSB signa

Hi Al, Maybe apples and organges and may not be! I'm at a loss. We used a standard, old-fashioned rotary AC alternator, probably 8-10 kW or so. It's not a DC-AC inverter type, so I expect that it mak

You're right, Bob. As far as I know, this is a standard rotary AC alternator so doesn't do any inverting to get to the AC. As such, I expect (but didn't verify) it makes a more-or-less sine wave-ish

Kim, "Hindsight" here - the definitive answer would have probably come if you could have briefly switched the '1000D over to a dummy load. That might help determine if the issue came from the RF or t

Both excellent ideas! I briefly thought about doing something like that, but (horrors!) there were no dummy loads to be had on site and I didn't want to go back home (again) to grab mine. I honestly

I think that a good line filter such as the Corcom EMI F3482 / F3482X just might be the solution. The filter that I mention is rated at 55 amps @ 110 VAC & at 40 amps @ 250 VAC. Something else that m

The very popular (and very nice) Honda EU2000i generator puts out some hash that I've mostly heard on 20M and 15M. It may be on other bands, but we always start out on those bands and it gets fixed b

Kim, Yes I have heard of similar problems from a nearby rig, and offer some suggestions on things you tried and what could have helped you did not know. First for all to know, using Astron external p
