Stepping motors are great, except for one thing. You need more wires to connect to the motor (at least 4 and sometimes 6). And in the 4 wire case, I don't believe any can be ground. With a DC motor,
If you read the web site further, you will see that they tilt over for servicing, even the 300 footer. That's a feature not a bug, IMHO. Rick N6RK _______________________________________________ See
I have various tiltover masts and I leave the gin poles in place at all times for immediate service. My 90 footer goes down and back up in 15 minutes. I agree this may not work for every application
My house has a fireplace and chimney that are constructed so that the face of the fireplace is flush with the interior wall, and the fireplace protrudes out from the exterior wall. Thus there is an e
No problem. They sell an adapter consisting of a 6 inch section of mast with plate welded to the end that is predrilled with a HamIV rotator hole pattern. Rick N6RK _________________________________

At Home Depot, I've never seen it priced this high. It has been as low as $12 and change. So what you quoted is an acceptable price, but no big bargain, despite any so called discounts. A local chain
I was trying to "invent" one of those as well. I had located a replacement blade part for a vibratory plow. It is a knife with a tube for a wire attached. The plan was to buy this part and homebrew t

Before the SteppIR came along, I had thought about making adjustable height verticals. If you only need a 2:1 difference in length, it would be quite easy to use a wire element that doubles back on i
You can use PVC sch pipe and fittings to make a 2 inch to 1 1/4 inch transition. Slit the ends and insert the aluminum tubing, then clamp with hose clamps. Tape up the joint with aluminum tape to mak
I used #4 XHHW stranded aluminum wire spaced 5 inches for Zo= 450 ohms. I have gone as far as 1000 feet with it. The loss on 40 meters is a few tenths of a dB. I don't see why you can't go 3000' feet
He used 4 wires to get a lower Zo, because he didn't want to deal with 450 ohms. Now that the 450 ohm problem has well established solutions, I can't see where 4 wires is worth the trouble. Rick N6RK
Here's a challenge to SteppIR wannabes: Figure out how to make the elements of retractable tubing, so when not in use, they collapse down to 3 feet (each side) or whatever. This would reduce the 2 el
