I'm considering building a long yagi for 20 meters and I see the ARRL antenna book recommends using 3" aluminum tubing for the boom. One thing I don't find is how to connect the sections together. Th

Bill, I used two pieces of 3 inch o.d. by 0.125 inch wall aluminum tubing in all of my 48 foot boom Yagis. Its an excellent choice. Like you, I've never found a standars product to splice the booms.

Yes... You take a piece of the same tubing cut a length about 20% of the entire boon, (6' for a 30 ' boom). now cut a 1/4 inch wide slit out of the length of the insert...now take hose clamps-compres

For splices of 3 inch x 1/8 wall boom, I use 2 1/2" Schedule 40 6061-T6 aluminum pipe. The O.D. is 2.875 and the I.D. is 2.469. Then I have the O.D. machined to 2.735 - 2.740. John KK9A / P40A I'm co
