Hands down, 222. Better coverage, more activity, better propagation, less expensive, easier to install and maintain. If you had a BIG 1296 station, it's possible to score higher on 1296 because the A

You'll make more contacts on 222, but have more fun when you get a weak signal on 1296. The club I belong to, the Arrow in Ann Arbor, has 6, 2, 222, 432 and 1296, and the 1296 stuff really thrilled f

222 and 1296 are close in terms of score production .. if there's any enhancement at all 222 usually wins out. e.g. in June the q points were about the same between 222 and 1296, but in Sept I did tw

Well, I sure don't have any real scientific evidence but it appears to me that at least in the contests there are a lot more contacts on 222 than 1296. I seem to get about double on 222. Just browsin

Hi Dave, Let me assume you meant in regard to trying to determine how to maximize your contesting score. These kinds of questions are one of the interesting and enjoyable dilemmas of contesting, and

I find more activity on 222 MHz and it is usually easier (read cheaper) to generate power at 222 MHz rather than on 1296 MHz, so I think 222 MHz is more productive. Particularly in contests. High gai

In the SF Bay Area, 220 wins by a huge margin. My experience is a lot of people with 1296 gear do not get on for the contests and 220 contacts with the same station are much easier to make with less

Here in central Illinois, it's about 50/50 as to whether stations have 222 or 1296. Probably there are a few more with 222 capability than 1296. Most people I work who have multiple bands seem to hav

I guess part of the answer depends on your goals and intestests also. If you also are into satellites, or want to get into the satellites, then 1.2ghz would be the better band. Same for if you want t

Well, in terms of required grids, you need 50 for 222 MHz VUCC and 25 for 1296 MHz VUCC. So you only need half the grids for 1296. Whether that is easier or not is hard to say. Usually when I can wor
