IMO, a real dumb choice. It will get as much use as semicolon and parentheses :.) What was wrong with "didah dah?" It's a shorter character, and won't cause the confusion a new character will cause.

I never had good luck with optoisolators on my Yaesu gear. I swapped then out for 2N2222 or equiv. transistors. Simple circuit - 1Kohm resistor on base, emitter grounded, output from collector. Barry
