Professionally, I am somewhat on the periphery of this, being very heavily involved with designing radios to go in pacemakers Firstly, there was an article a good few years ago (late 1980's) in RF De

I've usually founds that a blue glow inside the envelope isn't a problem - it's some sort of flourescence. Some brands of 807s seemed to do it more than others. 73 Peter G3RZP _______________________

I've seen receiving tubes ( power tubes - 6V6 size) with perfectly silver getter coating on the glass, but a blue glow between the electrodes with volts on - a sure sign of gassiness. I've also seen

Since T2 is unfused, if one of the tubes grid-filament shorts, the +110vdc cutoff-bias supply that is powered by the 80Vrms winding on T2 sees a short In my innocence, I would say that's bad design.

I would be a bit leary of a digital scope. the reason for that is that if you put ina well modulated RF signal, the possibilities of aliasing are frightening. I demo'd this to a HP rep - a 500 Megasa

In our Swedish lab, we have one of these super duper digital scopes from le Croix (sp?) that can look at 2.5GHz sine waves. It still can get confused by 90% modulated RF signals. Mind you, if you're

That is a joy to use. If you have a lot of spare change around, buy yourself a nice spectrum analyzer for Christmas Spectrum analysers can also lie like personnel managers. They also tell you things

The embossed marking is probably an indication of the outer foil. That you maybe able to find out by measuring the capacitance from each terminal to case. You could also measure the leakage current.

The only RF-Tx amplifiers that do not benefit from a step-start are those that already have one. To my mind, anything over the 100 watt level can benefit - and quite possibly, stuff under that too, i

When I think about it, the H-1000 was probably only rated to 25 MHz.... There were variants. When used as a drive for the H1200 30kW tx, they were 4 - 27MHz: stand alone as the HS113 (which I believe
