The Yaesu band data connector supplies a binary coded decimal output. The schematic in the owners manual shows the A, B, C, and D pin numbers. The output levels are standard 5 volt cmos. Just decode

Actually what you need is a battery voltage source which is higher than the required voltage and an regulator. This is often done with a dc to dc converter...something which runs on say 10 to 14 vdc
