Folks, Have just purchased a late model Drake L7E (E for export?) as a utility amplifier for HF. As a teenager, I used to dream of being able to afford a pair of 3-500 - only taken me 30 years to get

Folks, Thanks for all the on- and off-list feedback on the L7. Seems like there is a fair number of mods. to do to make the amp. even better than stock. I may try 4-400 if they will fit in the box an

Folks, Well I finally took delivery of my Drake L7E yesterday. Up against my HB efforts, I'm amazed at how small the thing is, yet it makes 1kW OK, at least on 80 m. Many thanks to all those that pro

Gary, Mine does a fairly comfortable 1 kW out (with 100 W drive), with the stock Drake HV PSU (about 2.4 kV on load including the drop across the 50 Ohm 'glitch' resistor I added). Pity the designer(

Chuck, This was one of the first mods. I did to my L7 when I got it. No unintended consequences here, either in the L7 or any other GG, triode-based amp. I have ever built. The L7-PS runs way cooler

Folks, Does anyone have an electronic copy (or even a paper one, come to that!) of the circuits / service manual for the Yaesu VL-1000 (Quadra) amplifier? I have recently completed a PIC-based interf

Folks, Looking at the circuit for the power supply used with the Drake L7 amplifier, the primary of the mains transformer appears to consist of four separately accessible circa 120 Volt windings. Wit

Folks, According to an external power meter, my Quadra amp seems a little shy at making its rated output on the lower HF bands. One these bands, the power meter display in the Quadra seems, however,

SPE should be in a good position to follow the 'multiple devices, under run' approach. Their still current 2K-FA amplifier uses 6 pallets, each pallet having a single 300 W, MRF151G, transistor. Then
