Jerry, Interesting information. I just took my short length of "twin RG-400" and tried spraying it with water. I put a 47 Ohm resistor across one end and found the frequency where it was acting as a

Jim, Nope! 2 lengths of RG8 strapped close together will work out around 60 Ohms. You would need to separate them by an inch to get 200 Ohms. And there's no need to strap inner and braid - just use t

Jim, That table could be very misleading without a lot more info. For example, is it showing the total loss, or the "excess SWR loss"? What type of cable is it for? And what length? At what frequency

I guess it all depends on what you mean by "the antenna" - does it or doesn't it include the impedance matching components? My personal view is that if you talk about a "tuner" you are talking about

Jerry, Mischievously ....... I just tried an interesting experiment. I took a 100 Ohm resistor in series with a 100pF capacitor and placed them across the "antenna" terminals of my tuner. I watched t

Jerry, Sorry - I can't agree. The tuner never made the phase angle of my load zero - the current through the resistor/capacitor combination, and the voltage across them were still out of phase, even

Problem solved. A 4.7uF capacitor had been fitted at C54 on the IF/AF board instead of 1uF. It looks like it was there from new. The previous owner didn't use CW so he'd not noticed! 73, Steve G3TXQ

Bob, You're right - diagnosing a wrong-value component was more difficult than a faulty one. One of my problems was that there is no parts layout diagram for the board, so even when I discovered a 4.
