Rich, I am rapidly getting the feeling that I totally misunderstood what everybody meant by "hot switching". I thought it meant that the transceiver was seeing undesirable transients because it chang

Also, if one enjoys the refreshing smell of ozone in the shack from the arcing of the tune capacitor, or heaven forbid, the band switch, it wouldn't be bad. After several hot switches, a layer of car

I ran that combination for many years Len. Never had a problem. Today, I would suggest adding 150-180 Ohms in series with the relay lead inside the SB-220 and right at the phono plug. This will limit

In my experience (sample size of 1) The 930 definitely switches faster than the 220, even with the big relay in the 930. You can see this because the first dit of each CW transmission shows high SWR,

In general PIN diodes have a limited current carrying capacity even when forward biased (biased ON). As the antenna system SWR increases, particularly with a LOW Z (open circuit with a 1/4 wave of fe

Hotswitching usually means that the transceiver begins delivering RF before the amplifier relay contacts have closed and stopped bouncing. The way to tell if this is the case is to watch the SWR ind

Rich, Since I don't use CW breakin so I don't expect a problem in that mode. One last question: lets say I take care of the delays on transmit. Is there a potential problem going back to receive. Can

The hotswitching problem is not confined to CW. The period in mS from PTT closure to RF out is identical to that on QSK-CW. Ditto for VOX operation. Ditto for AM operation. Not likely - Modern trans
