I'd say the choice is very dependent on how much drive power you have. As far as you can trust the ARRL handbook, it suggests about 10dB of gain in GG. If you want 1500 out, that could be a problem.

? Agreed, however, due to the problems involved in achieving large RF voltage changes across the capacitive grid, the practical max. gain of a grid-driven tetrode or pentode is seemingly in the 100

Lane, Are you looking to run these guys as a linear, or as plate modulated am? If the latter, then you'll be pushing the vacuum variables if you run 5KV on the plates, since at full modulation, the p

True, Peter. However, since the RF peak V rating of vacuum variable capacitors is 60% of the DC/60Hz rating, the 12kV rating is actually a 7200 RF peak V rating. IMO, breakdown of such a capacitor w

I think the most I paid for a pair of good 4-1000A pulls was about DM100 (about GBP35 at the time). I did come across a NOS Penta 4-1000A at Weinheim a number of years ago. I didn't know what to expe

Dave, the 8930 is in the AM-6154 and 6155 FAA amps, that are easily converted to 144, 222 and 432 MHz, which Im fairly sure hasnt made it across the pond in much quantity. They were 50W out AM linear

I had three AM-6154. In the early 80s those were sold in quantity over here. One was with DX393, the other with 8930s. The Russian GS-36B runs pretty well with them too. 73 Peter, DJ7WW Dave, the 893
