I'll have to agree with Larry as some of the highest price amps use a tapped toroid for part of the L section of the Pi-L. Carl KM1H _______________________________________________ Amps mailing list

Jim, Yes the comments hold true period! Flux in any core with shorted turns will cause extra loss with the exception of a type -0 core which has u=1. I have seen shorted turns on a toroid core causin

However the 2 Holer HF-2500 doesnt have that problem which points to an inadequate size core for the DX. I happen to have a 2 holer on the bench right now and it runs fine at 2200W key down and has s

What is the power difference between this "optimized" design and the original HF-2500 with a tapped single toroid for 80/160 and a shorting switch? Carl KM1H _________________________________________

Denny, I believe that was Larry's point also. It's certainly my observation here. Does not take much of that power floating around in the cores to warm those babys up either. :) 73/jeff/ac0c www.ac0c

Ah, that explains it. Why did you eliminate the dual section Tune cap? IMO the dual section was a class act used by Alpha, National and others that made 10-20M tuning a snap. At least Palstar cut out
