Please forgive my ignorance. I am going to install a new (old stock) 3-500Z in my amp. Are there procedures that I must follow. I've read and heard about "getting" but I don't have a clue what that m

Hi Tony, last year in july, we have bought Henry 2KD Classic with a pair of 3-500Z for a friend S51ZZ. Amp was produced in 1984 and have had seen rare use. As it was stored for a couple of years, bef

If the 3-500Z has stood for a long time unused I suggest you use the 'Reactivation 3-500Z' procedure by PA0FRI, here: http://pa0fri.home.xs4all.nl/Lineairs/TL922/tl-922eng.htm When I did this with a

This scheme makes no sense to me. It is known a 3-500Z tube has it's getter on the plate. So if you place 45 volts on the plate and draw 400 ma, you have a plate dissipation of 18 watts. 18 watts is

Lee, I think you may be confusing two unrelated issues ... The 'Reactivation' that PA0FRI describes is a process of making a tube work again. The 3-500Z is a directly heated cathode, i.e. the filamen

Mike, I have always heard of long time "idle" 3-500Z tubes needing to be gettered because the high voltage can flash over and destroy the grid. I have never heard they have a problem emitting electro

Reprinted from the AMPS archives... yet again... THIS INFORMATION APPLIES ONLY TO GLASS TUBES like the 3-500Z. For ceramic-metal tubes, see the final paragraph of this post. The following procedure c

Mike, you are partially correct except the tube doesn't sit around and can no longer emit electrons; it no longer emits electrons because the filament has used up the electrons on the surface from lo
