I noticed the AL-1500 was getting pretty hot during the contest last weekend & wonder if putting a large muffin fan on the outlet & sucking the exhaust would perhaps assist in increasing air flow. I

Plastic fan over hot air, that sounds like a bad idea. Metal fan with oiled bearings over hot air, that sounds like a bad idea. Add more air flow to the input of the existing fan if possible. -- Ron

Do you have the cooling fan wired for High Fan speed? If not you could make it switchable for high speed when contesting or RTTY etc. My AL-1500 runs pretty cool even on RTTY with the fan set to High

This was quite common with the Dentron amps which were a bit anemic on cooling, as well as in a few other areas. It's not very efficient, but it does work and keeps the top of the cabinet much cooler
