Hello there... We have built two interface boxes that have Keying/PTT/Paddle interfaces. I built one a couple of years ago and W4WA built one recently (in other words, they're not using parts from th

This sounds like the on voltage of the transistors are too high. This can happen due to low beta in the transitors. You can probably fix the problem by putting the emitter of the CW transistor direc

Boy you got that right! My opto box would key the rig from my LPT2 but the "on" voltage was too high to trigger the VOX. I changed port cards and then the interface wouldn't do anything but key the s

Has anyone tried a darlington pair (beta multiplier) in place of the keying transistor? This should draw very little current from the interface. Mike, W4EF Boy you got that right! My opto box would k

Good point - the darlington adds one diode drop to the Vce saturation voltage! Exactly how low do the modern transceivers need to go anyway? One would think that pulling them down to 1 volt would do

Yes. Have built about 10 boxes for here and for other locals, my first effort would only key on *some* of the computers, so changed to a darlington (MPSA13 if I recall correctly). I also do not use t

Tree, Is there any hope for us guys with the first generation Paragons ? Anyway to make the TR-LOG S&P functions, etc. work with this radio? Thanks and 73, Rich KD0ZV --Original Message-- From: owner

I don't think a darlington adds a drop to Vce, it would add one diode drop to Vbe. In a darlington, two base-emitter junctions are in series but there is nothing in series with the "main" collector-e

Hi Nick, Actually, the darlington does add a diode drop to the Vce of the output trasistor, since the Vce of the output transistor is in parallel with the sum of its own Vbe drop and the input transi
