For long key down sessions TenTec recommends a fan for cooling the heatsink. Has anyone ever seen a temp controlled fan for sale that clips onto the heatsink? I want to run RTTY and thought it would

The 12 V computer fans work fine for this purpose. They are available from a lot of mail order places and can also be found at hamfests. I think that MCM Elecronics sells a temperature sensing one. I

Ken, I have two large muffin fans (115-vac type) mounted in a cutout in a shelf above the back of my Omni VI+. I can turn them on with toggle switches. In a contest, I have them on all the time. When

I took a 12vdc fan from a PC power supply and run it off the 12vdc out of the Omni VI+. Fan comes on when the rig is turned on. Heat sinks were getting hot just running 40wpm CW. Fan does the trick.

Back in the old Heathkit and Drake days I simply used a small muffin fan placed on top of the chassis over the transmitter tubes to help exhaust some of the heat. Such fans are almost noiseless. I wo

I also use a PC power supply fan running off the 12 vdc phono socket on the back of my Omni VI. I added a couple of 100 ohm resistors in parallel in the line to slow the fan slightly, which really cu

I would think that as small as these fans are, they wouldn't disapate as much heat if connected to the heat sink. Of course maybe these fans are really amazing. I maybe thinking of the really small s

Hi, Scott-- It takes very little airflow over the heatsink of a Ten-Tec to keep it really cool in the most adverse conditions. A small 12 volt DC fan from a discarded computer power supply will do a

I think most TT rigs are air deprived. The Omni 6's I had needed some air inside badly. When receiving, it was stable but after sending for a few hours at high speed, the oscillators would drift due

The Omni series has oscillators which are xtal controlled while the Icom uses pll technology. Each band in the Omni requires a xtal to provide frequencies for the first mixer and there is a 9mhz osc
