I am grateful to all who replied to my request for opinions on the Century 22. Apparently, while it does have some good features, the direct-conversion scheme leaves something to be desired if you ar

QRP is fine with a receiver like this. It just take a little getting used to to tune in the signal on the correct side of zero beat. Carl Moreschi N4PY 58 Hogwood Rd Louisburg, NC 27549 www.n4py.com

Mike, I don't know how you feel about items on the infamous auction site, but at the moment, there are several Century 21 and Argosy rigs listed for very reasonable prices. They are all listed, thoug

I don't think the DC receiver matters for qrp as much as for high band noise or crowded band conditions. It should have a 500Hz filter--but it is an audio filter, not crystal. If you can live with th

I guess some folks do not believe the Ten Tec C21 manual and its schematic... The 5.0 to 5.5 MHz IF goes into a product detector which the PTO performs the role of BFO. If you look closely at the 803

To be correct Carl, we have to say QRP in the states is fine with an RX like that. Over here they were pretty useless on 80 and 40 back in the days they were relatively new. In the meantime our 40m b

I must be misunderstanding.. My C21 hears both sidebands all the time. Its advantage over direct conversion is freedom from hum and images (wrong sideband). __________________________________________

Perhaps I was a bit too optimistic about THAT aspect of the C21 design. Your question prompted me to rethink that. While the 5.0 to 5.5 MHz IF in the C21 does offer the three advantages of added sele

I bought a used C 22 some years ago and really like it.  Being direct conversion, it does not have single-signal reception, so you hear a signal on both sides of zero beat. If you hear QRM, just offs
