Some one used to make a "choke Balun. I belive it was just a series of ferrite beads over coax inside PVC pipe, but they seemed to work well. As I recall they covered 1.8 through the 50 MHz bands. An

Roger, The wireman sells one. It is about 14" long overall, UV resistant PVC, SO239 at bottom and eye hook at top. He does not describe the innards. 73, Phil, K9PJ -- Original Message -- From: "Roger

I "Cover" is quite loose. They are ADVERTISED to work on all bands, but they don't work very well, and they are very sensitive to feedline length. For about $20 in toroids, you can BUILD a choke balu

Not to get into am argument about the best balun, I agree that DX Engineering has a great balun. BUT, there are certainly other ferrite choke/coax baluns that work well and also are worth owning: Som

I would like to see your measured data for common mode impedance vs frequency supporting that statement. There's a lot of green smoke and mirrors in ham baluns, chokes, and ferrite parts, and except

Palomar Engineers have a "Balun Kit" that is basically Ferrite Beads that you slip over your coax and some heat shrink that you use to keep them in place. $16.50 for the RG-8 one. What is your take o

That's one of the string of beads chokes I'm talking about. Not nearly enough. See my tutorial. 73, Jim _______________________________________________ _______________________________________________

Mike - You beat me to the punch. The Palomar "Balun Kit" was what I was going to recommend, but I see, after reading the responses that you have already done that. I've successfully used these on 160

probably jumping in late here.. Perhaps "seemed to work" is the operative phrase. Lots of folks have antennas that "work ok" with absolutely no choke at the feedpoint. 'YCs writeup gives good informa
