Flux core for outdoors (read: wind), gas in the shop. Don't try to oxy/acetylene weld it as the heat is much greater than a quick BZZT! tack from a MIG gun. I agree with about all the welding tips pr

The little bent point tool for twisting rebar tying wire is called a "pig tail" by many users. Definitely worth having. Makes the rebar tying go much much faster and with far less work or wear and te

Flux core is the easiest, cheapest, and lightest way to weld in the field e.g. for fence posts in the pasture with a generator on the back of the ATV or Gator. The entry MIG setups also don't have a

Great idea! The rebar drawings never show these diagonals, so I haven't used them in the past. But this sounds like a great idea in the future. There is no rule saying you can't put gratuitous rebar

As regards having the wind or a fan at your back to avoid breathing the fumes. Not a good idea. Not a sound idea aerodynamically speaking. Wind in your face is not the best either. Take a look at the

Good point. Gave away my 240v 80# 225a buzzbox, weighs more than the entry MIGs, takes 240v 50a. The HF 70a unit (120v?) is probably ok for rebar tacks with 1/16" rods, but I think wouldn't do 2" sch

Jim: I used the "wire" that is supposed to be used with rebar and no problems in 18 years on my TriEx W51 tower.  Of course I always exceed the specs for concrete.  instead of 3x3x4, I go 4x4x6.  Giv

Those 240v 225 amp century boxes are usually called "tombstones" and are a LOT better. That said, I have one of those 110/220 v buzzboxes (but mine is a 90 amp) sitting in the garage. Usually run 3/3

Well, my point with the cheap stuff is that you don't really know what you're welding to. It might be part cast iron from an old engine block for all I know, and that doesn't weld well at all. You wo
