What balun is being used with the TH7DXX. over the years i have owned a few hy gain ants and burnt up the Hy Gain BA baluns that were offered. so i went to wind your own coax baluns.. i was reading a
IIRC, it's a bifilar-wound 1:1 choke. If you are having problems with it like I once did, I clamped the case in a vise and opened it up using a sharp utility knife, nudged along with a hammer. There
Hi Anthony, Hygain offers two baluns for the TH7DXX: A BN86, which is the older style bifilar wound over ferrite bar. This is also known as a voltage balun and as such is subject to arc over if the v
Hi Anthony Are you using too much power? I never had a problem with my TH7DXX and BN86 balun. I had it for many years without problems 73, Jorge CX6VM/CW5W --Mensaje original-- De: TowerTalk [mailto:
You don't need to run excessive power to burn up a BN-86. All you need to do is forget to change antennas and transmit on 40M into the TH7/BN-86 with less than full power. Years ago that is how I los

A solenoid winding made of coax is more effective then those 4 wraps. I use SCF12-50 Cellfex to wind my choke baluns. 30 turns on a pvc tube of 4-5" diameter do the trick (2000 ohms at 14MHz). 73 Pet
4-5 turns with 4 x 2.4" OD #31 ferrites is more effective than the 30 turns on the PVC pipe! Probably double the choking impedance! 73 Bert, VE3NR A solenoid winding made of coax is more effective th
One turn is quoted by Fair-Rite with 190 ohms at 10MHz, 290 ohms at 25MHz 31 mix would not be my choice for a balun anyway, at least not with decent power. It´s curie temperature ist just over 130°C.
The TH-7DX is sold with a BN-86. I immediately replaced mine with the BN-4000, which handles more power. I regularly run legal limit into my TH-7DX/BN-4000 without any problems, even on RTTY. _______
I haven't looked the specific number of cores and turns but done correctly you should be able to get around 5000 ohms isolation with the 73 Roger (K8RI) 73 Bert, VE3NR --Original Message-- From: Towe

I used their table with the snap-its cores. The 2.4 inch 61 core is part number 5961003821. I use them for stack match transformers from time time or for small baluns wound with RG142. 13 turns of RG
No problem with winding that cable on a 4" pvc pipe. And that cable is cheaper for me then four Fair-Rite toroids. The 40m yagis feed point impedance is 28 ohms. For the transformation and balun I us

Yes, I am pretty confident that it works on 20m. 30µH give me 2638 ohms. On the feed line I measure no common mode current either. I am using such on a 20m KLM yagi now which I converted to OWA two w
Jim, did you ever try that as a balun on the feed point of a yagi with the power level RG393 is good for? 73 Peter Jim VE7RF _______________________________________________ __________________________
