see if it has a battery backup in it and replace that. try turning it on with the cpu reset buttons pressed. or just wait a while after powering up, i have some ft-1000mp's that seem to take a minute

Sounds like the internal PSU is dead. Probably a couple of capacitors in the switch mode powersupply have gone bad, this is a common fault. Try running the rig on an external 12 VDC to verify that it
