Poor conditions by most standards, but a lot better than last year.
Very few hours of propagation to the US, combined with my s9 line
noise made SSB to the states really tough. It wasn't much better
on CW. Power company came out Tuesday before the contest and
completely eliminated my line noise. It was amazing to hear a com-
pletely quiet band, I had almost forgotten what it was supposed to
sound like. Unfortunately, two new sources appeared Thursday even-
ning, and drove me crazy the entire weekend. The bright spot was
an outstanding LP EU opening the first night, and a fairly good one
the second night. The only problem was the conditions so heavily
favored a particular country that it was hard to find any multipliers in
the pileup. I'm sure I missed lots of countries, and apologize to the
callers I didn't work, but this contest produced, without a doubt, the
most uncooperative pileup of EU that I have ever seen. The rapid
QSB made it that much worse, as any time I asked for a repeat on
a call 25 zone 15 stations would locate the caller and call continu-
ously over that station, either making it impossible for me to work
the station or costing me an additional 10 qso's by requiring multiple
repeats. I hate having to black list uncooperative stations, but I
finally did for a couple of the worst offenders. I realize there is no
use preaching to the choir, almost everybody else listened well and
only called if at least one letter of their call match what I sent...
Thanks guys.

Congratulations on all the fine efforts, CU in the 160 'tests,

73, Don KH8/N5OLS
