I am in the process of building
a HV supply for my 4cx250 Amps... I have a Hammond xfmr which is
1620-0-1620 or 2350-0-2350 AC out at 750 mA which is probably de-rated
to those specs due to CSA stringency... I am building a Bridge using
1N5408 diodes in 5 seies strings with 500k resistors and .01 1KV bypass
caps...
I have a Hammond 5 Hy 1000mA 5kV Choke 70 ohms resistance and another
unknown choke which is somewhat smaller and measure 230 ohms resistance
... I have looked through your valuable information and other info here
and am somewhat unsure of the design using the choke... My bleeder
resistor is a stack of 33.3K 35watt resistors and I have 22uF at 4000v
of capacitance (this will be changed to 40uF at 4kV when the amp is
completed and working)... Could either of the chokes be put to good use
in this configuration... I have several smaller Bathtub type caps for
resonating caps ie 1uF at 4000V etc... There seems to be many schools of
thought on the design of the HV supplies and I do not have a death-wish
to fulfill if I err in the design and construction... It will
incorporate MOV's and softstart... Please any MORE info is greatly
appreciated... 73 de Jordan VE2SWL/VE6...
