A GDO in diode mode will work with reasonable accuracy if you have it set
for minimum coupling.

Yes, if you tune thru the channels and can seperate real harmonics and
overload from parasites.

Depends, again Peter pretty much hit on the main points.
If it is a commercial amp, measuring the existing suppressor R is a first
step.
