The arcs are likely to be enough strain on the diodes, transformer and
capacitors that mayhap you need good supply of those, too. Not every time, of
course.  Also, you need a mechanical arrangement so you just turn a handle to
insert a new tube.......

I use a 50 ohm 50 watt glitch resistor and a home made 2 amp fuse. I'd argue
that in glitch resistors, size helps.
