Oh sure, an 8877 with 4KV on the plate will do the full boat,
but a factory edition 77Dx will not achieve 4KV even with the key
up, much less down.

Even abusing the box in SSB and running CW won't get 2KW
to the antenna with a vanilla version. The plate voltage meter just
swings away, and I'm talking 240 volt with no neutral here, not 120 vac.

Oh sure, modifying a '77 is the best feeling when it's done. The owner gets
a fine, fine box with a classy RF design, full QSK, lighted buttons and
meters,
and if you go for an outboard anode supply you can get your 4KV at key down,
but them guts ain't gonna fit into the factory chassis.

Much besides was the factory oil-filled cap that was rated at 4,000WVDC.

Oooooooo, that's gambling.

Any of you guys actually run amplifiers? Yeah, I'm feisty.

A correctly ran 8877 will exactly put out 2500 watts...
It will put exactly 1500 watts into the anode cooler with 4000 VDC.

4000V @ 1 amp.

When you throw a carrier on a 77SX at full power the filament supply would
severely dip.. You can see it in the plate meters. (and filament
measurement)
