My Alpha 76 has been in a similar location for a good 12 to 14 years.  
No problems so far although the aux fan on the back is getting noisy.

It's been said you can't damage the amp from too much air flow, but you 
can if the new fan(s) disrupt the designed air flow.  Would a fan on the 
top with the internal fan blowing across the tubes?
