Some years ago I built a power supply rated at 2.8 KV 1A. Since I thought I
might want to
operate it in a 50 Hz. location as well as here in the US, I asked Peter Dahl
(who is now
an SK) about it when I ordered the transformer. He said that the primary of a
60 Hz.
transformer would run very hot on 50 Hz. and he advised ordering it for 50 Hz.
It was
considerably heavier. I think it becomes more important when the transformer
gets larger!
