My fan motor would get noisy every once in a while, and I had been looking at
replacing it with a modern substitute.
Long story short, the GE motor in the L-4B lists its rotation at 1550 RPM and a
counter clockwise rotation. Currently, a "Packard" 40120 is being produced
that fills the bill. It is listed as a "Clockwise" rotation, but the rotation
matches the stock Drake motor. Perhaps the Chinese have a different view of
rotation? Packard also produces a counter clockwise version (40121) that does
not work in the Drake
Mods and mounting:
The Packard 40120 comes with mounting studs on both the front and the back.
The rear studs must be trimmed off, and a couple washers need to be added onto
each front stud to get the proper setback.
The motor shaft is slightly too long and must be trimmed to suit.
Other than these mods, it is a drop-in fit.
So far, so good.
