Holy high voltage!!! $7k for an AL1500 with an 8877?! I have an AL1200 that I got cheap several years ago. It needed some work and in the process I installed Ameritron’s QSK-5 PIN diode QSK switch. The AL1200 isn’t as easy to drive as the 1500, so I changed a primary tap, added more filter capacitors to the string and so increased B+ to about 4 kV no-load. A few other changes followed but nothing crazy. It’s much easier to drive, now. Overall I guess I have less than $2k in it. But even that amp is now $6k!! The last time I paid attention, the AL1200 was about $4k and the AL1500 was a bit less depending on the tube. But I haven’t been monitoring the pricing. When did they get so expensive?
