Greetings Friends and fellow Contest addicts,

Geez..I feel like I'm addressing an AA convention... ;-)

We have posted an interesting rate graph from last years CQ Phone test on the
Web site for your study'n pleasure. This is what the BOSS looks at when its
time to apply for acceptance for the following years DXpedition. "If you
can't run with the big dogs.....stay home", he says with a grin. Seriously
though..one can see where improvement is needed and plan to rectify the
situation...OR ELSE..

The address is attached to the FRC Homepage http://www.frc-contest.org/

Look for the link to DXpeditions and the V26B Website:
                                 http://www.frc-contest.org/v26b.html
Then look for more pictures and the rate graph is last thing on the page.

Lets get back in the ball game! CONTEST SEASON IS LESS THAN A MONTH AWAY!

Howie lost his big tower in the hurricane this month, but I know a lot of
people will still be interested in what Howie does to be so loud. Maybe
Howie will follow up this message with some details of the damage. I know,
I for one, mourn his loss. I know it's only a matter of time until it
happens to me again.

You can check out his a few pictures of the outside of K4PQL at:

Would like to get some more station tours for the web site. It's really
interesting to view other stations and their ideas regarding their set ups.
All I need are some photos and some commentary about each picture and the
station/owner overall.

I get all kinds of great feed back from guys who view these tours. I'de
like to keep em coming!

I am in the midst of writing a logging (contest of course) program for Linux and
X-windows. Before I get too far into the process I thought I would check on the
demand for such a program. Currently I am in the user interface design portion
of the project, so it still really does nothing. However anyone interested in
seeing the interface can email me, and I will mail a static binary to them.
Plans currently are to have the interface be motif 2.0 under X-windows, but
Motif will not be required as it will be distributed as a static binary. I will
distribute shared versions too for those who have motif 2.0 or greater. Anyone
running linux I would appreciate looking at it to get some feedback.

Hi Barry, I am cc'ing this to the reflector because there were so many
replys to my "Resolutions" post, I thought some of the others would like
your suggestion. . Good to hear from you again.

Like yourself, I haven't fooled with RUFZ either...from the looks of the
toplist few in the USA are doing it. As for besting those EU's... that might
be easier said than done :-)

When I quit, my score was still increasing but you reach a point where
familiarity with the calls in the data base becomes a factor. Even with
13,000 calls on the list, you eventually become familiar with them and it
aids the score. Truthfully, I don't think that my personal ability to
distinguish between S and H, or U and A, will get any better than 50% at 95
WPM or more, so there was also an element of luck as my score increased.
Some of the EU's I am convinced can hear the higher speeds consistently
better for whatever reason, be it practice, inherent skill, etc. And there
is no question that my QRQ RX ability (and other abilities) was better at
age 18-20 than now :-)

Besides, copying a call at 95 plus WPM has little, if any, relevance to the
real contesting world. I still recommend RUFZ to those seeking to increase
CW proficiency because it pushes you to your maximum speed all the time.

Good luck in the DX tests...
