Jim:
If you receive a call that I did not request, there should be no
problem with dating the application with today's date. However, if
you get a call that is higher on my list than the one I end up with, I
can envision litigation!
73 and GOOD LUCK!

Subject: Signature Date on Contest 610V
Author: jreid@aloha.net (Jim Reid) at INTERNET
Many have counseled that Express Mail sent today or
on Friday will be date stamped in by the Mellon Bank
as Sept. 23rd, opening date of Gate 2. However, the
610V forms asks us to date the application on the
date we sign the 610V form. If I date the
application with today or tomorrow's date, ie,
19th or 20th, will the app. be rejected? Or
should I just go ahead and date it Sept. 23, 1996,
the opening day?
Typical question about a government form!

I don't know about all of this - But -
Any state such as LA, where the zoo lists the animals and the best
ways to cook them, has my approval!

Must have been a bad time for the contest guys at ARRL during the
transition after Warren left. I know mistakes can happen (having
done the ARRL DX records for NCJ for a few years and perpetuating
some of the errors for a couple of those years--even after being told of
them) but it doesn't seem so bad when it is the other guy who gets
left out.
But when your own score gets left out, and there is a guest op who
doesn't get recognition for an fine effort during very bad conditions, then
it does seem to sting a little.
For the record (since it wasn't in QST):
1996 ARRL DX CW single band 40M
W0UN (W0UA, op) 807 qsos, 93 mults, 225,153 points
Only a 4th place USA finish but the conditions for that weekend were
some of the worst I have heard for a major contest--at least from 0-land.
In this case I did send in the log via email and did have a confirmation
of receipt from Billy. Mistakes do happen, especially during times
of turmoil, but now that he has some new help maybe things will
go a little smoother next time. If Billy has any suggestions on ways
to submit logs to make them easier to handle I would be happy to
do whatever it takes to make his a little job easier.
