Big donation from well-know contester

Subject: Big donation from well-know contester

A recent article appeared in the Seattle Times (the front page, no less)
reporting the donation of $35 million to the USC Business School. The donor
was Gordon Marshall, W6RR, a part-time resident of the Seattle area. His
place here is next door to the former QTH of the famous W7RM multi-multi.
Gordon is a former Contester of the Year of the Southern California Contest
Club and founder of Marshall Industries, a large ($1.2 billion per year)
electronics distributor. The USC business school is now known as the Gordon
S. Marshall School of Business. The reason for the big donation? Said
Gordon, "I have more money than I can spend. I just wanted to give them some
money".

It's obvious that the focus, dedication and hard work necessary for
contesting success also carries over into the business world.

Hi Greg,

Get on your asbestos suit Bubba, I think its gonna get toasty around =
here......

I'll let you know when I put up my first tower ---- so you can accuse me =
of
ripping of my insurance company too.
Do you also think I should give back the money I got from my insurance =
company (other than my 3K out of pocket expenses) when a hit & run driver =
totaled my parked mini-van (which was insured to the gills!!!)?
Jeez, that should keep the rates down, huh???

73,
John K1RC

Here's what I did when I wanted to be insured on the towers, etc.... When
the xyl and I first moved in, I went to the State Farm agent and told her =
I
had this ham radio station that I wanted to insure....and oh, by the
way...there is a house around it...

She has never forgotten that. She has been to the house and seen it and =
the
towers and I have never had a problem with a claim. By the way...I =
ALWAYS
try to be absolutely fair with the insurance company when there is a =
claim.
I don't try to get more than is deserved -- even though that seems to be =
a
very popular tactic. It is amazing to me that people who wouldn't dream =
of
shoplifting from a store think it is OK to steal from an insurance =
company.
If you aren't fair just as a matter of personal ethics, then at least
understand that rates depend on claims -- so don't make rates go up by
exaggerating claims. Some of us who appreciate getting reasonable =
insurance
for our ham stations don't want to see that disappear because of too many
outlandish claims. Am I preaching to the choir? 73 de Greg-N4CC
