The Cabo Rojo Contest Club,(a genuine contest club with 12
members and growing and the M/M formerly known as KP4XS) a
division of the Potomac Valley Radio Club, has a new weapon for
use in the CQ WW WPX SSB contests and other contests! It's a new
callsign! Look for WP3X M/M in the WPX SSB Test at the end of
March. A million thanks to the F.C.C. and those who lobbied for
the vanity callsign program. Finally a cool callsign to compete
against all those other cool DX WPX callsigns!

I'll be operating on all bands (80m to 10m) this weekend. My 80m set up is
still waiting for a huge improvement (TX/RX) but please try to listen for
me. I will avoid the croweded part of the band. I'll be around 3515.Besides,
on 40m I am limited to run 250W until 3:30 UTC, the neighbor is complaining
of TVI on this band when the power exceeds 250W (he is the only one
complaining and lives so far away from my QTH, but...).
Hope to work a lot of states on all bands. My current station includes:
- TS850S
- 500W
- Mosley TA-33 at 35ft (3 ele. triband yagi)
- HF2V (vertical for 40/80)

In the early days at V31DX we tried working US stations simplex
in the US section of the 40 meter band at, for instance 7200 or
so. We worked NOBODY! The US/VE stations are all listening
below 7100. We now try to find a relatively clear spot at 7065 plus
or minus - and try not to get pushed up into the RTTY/AMTOR section
or down below 7040 - and listen up. Note that the high end of 40 just
below 7300 is usually QRM free but most folks don't like to go that
high because their antennas are tuned lower in the band. Finding
a clear spot in the US section is occasionally a problem.... more than
once we've found what appears to be a clear frequency only to find
some other DX station is also using the same listen frequency resulting
in two pile-ups and neither DX station sure who worked who.........
It sometimes takes 2 or 3 Qs to figure out what happened - which is why
we always leave DUPES in the log and work everyone, every time.

A good source of information and a friendly helping hand is the QRP
reflector (unfortunately, I don't have the address handy, but I'm sure you
can find it via Alta-Vista or someone here will know). Good operators and
a good group (when they're not arguing about whether Big Antennas violate
the True QRP Spirit...just kidding guys!).
