World Radiosport Team Championship 2000 fun is about to begin! The official
WRTC website http://wrtc2000.bit.si/ is a great resource of general
information about the competition.
Over 100 competitors from all over the world have been preparing their
equipment for the long journey to Bled Slovenia. As you read this, some of
the competitors are already taking the first legs of their travels enroute to
an opportunity to be a part of Amateur Radio contesting history.
Few will return with a medal -- all will return with memories of excitement,
camaraderie and passion that will be with them forever.
The National Contest Journal is ready to provide some very unique special
coverage of the action for those who cannot make it to Slovenia for the
historic festivities.
Starting July 3rd, the new NCJ website http://www.ncjweb.com will provide on
the spot coverage of the pulse of the competition through the eyes and
descriptive words of on-the-scene reporters Ward N0AX and Dick K6KR. They
will daily file entertaining and informative stories that will be posted on
the NCJ WRTC Special Coverage pages.
You don't have to miss one moment of the excitement in Europe - just check
the website frequently for the latest postings. Digital photos, just hours
old, of the operators and the events will appear. You will be a part of WRTC
2000 through the Special Coverage pages and by getting on the air during the
July 8-9 IARU HF Championship to actually work the competitors during their
fast-paced dash for glory.
Have you ever wondered what it feels like to be one of the few lucky
contesters chosen to go to the WRTC competitions? What is it like to be
representing your country at such an important gathering of the Best of the
Best? Do they all feel the same level of pressure to perform? What thoughts
cross through the minds of the competitors in the last few hours before the
run for the Gold, Silver and Bronze medals begins? How do they prepare
themselves "inside?"
How stressful is it to be one of the judges who must insure that the
competition is as fair and equitable as possible and that the teams operate
within the intent of the rules? What would you do if you observed something
that should disqualify one of the teams?
We are fortunate to be able to provide you with answers to those questions.
Several North American competitors and a judge have volunteered to keep
journals of their thoughts in the days leading up to the competition, during
the heat of the battle and after the final results are announced.
You will be able to read the inner thoughts of well-known contesters in the
NCJ WRTC Special Coverage pages soon. Expect to see journals by W6OAT K1DG
K6LA K7BV N6IG K9ZO K3NA K1ZM K4BAI and others in the days just before the
games open in Bled, Slovenia.
Don't miss a moment of the fun - BE THERE !
