Someone had to build a station, setup antennas, get them to work and
keep them working.
Anyone can win a certificate in any contest by simply picking the right
class to enter. Sure there are places you can go that you can set up
minimal antennas and radios and do very well. So what? How does
remote operation change that.
If someone wants to setup 10 remote stations and split their time so be
it. It offers me the opportunity to work 9 new stations from a mult
that might not be available otherwise. I am having FUN and so is the
other guy.
I am not sure what you are beating around the bush about. I suspect
cheating and we have a tough time with that anyway. How does CQ know
that W0MU was operating W0MU and not some other guy? They don't.
People cheat and will always cheat. Cheaters get exposed most of the
time. If you are in Europe how do I know you are in Italy or France?
There is nothing stopping anyone from obtaining multiple callsigns and
using them. In fact, I received cards for J6M 2 minutes apart from the
same guy using called from two different EU countries. I alerted both
CQ and ARRL to this and it is theirs to deal with.
How the other countries handle this is their business. If they deem it
ok then who are we to question them?
Change is good folks...It moved us from spark gap transmitters to what
we have today.
Most times you would never know if the guy you are working is remote or
not. So why does it matter? What assurances do you have today that the
guy you are working is where he says he is? None. There are all sorts
of stories about dx peditions especially to the Caribbean that never
took place from the place they claimed. Some were caught others were not.
This is a hobby. If remote operations make it more fun for people and
create more activity I am for it.
