Sometimes you have to think outside the ham radio box.
Search eBay for AP800 or XAP800 Conferencing Microphone Mixer.
This is a fantastic Microphone mixer that has 8 ins and 8 outs, digital
controls and RS-232..
Not only does it have that, it has Contact-Closure (IE Footswitch)
interfaces that perform a
macro to do what ever you want.
Left footswitch: Mute Mic Audio on left radio and enable on Right Radio.
Etc.
Pretty simple. I can see many contest uses beyond SO2S. You can use
line-level audio
with it as well.
I paid $9.99 for my mixer on Ebay. Current prices are in the $30-$50 range
for used units.
It's a 1U box.
