I've used the freely available Audacity for many years.
8 kbit sample rate is more than sufficient quality for recording CW or
a 3 kHz wide SSB passband.
Feed the external audio output fromthe rig into the PC sound card, hit
the record button in Audacity
at the start of the contest and just let it run. Press stop at the end!
Save as .wav or if you prefer .mp3 you'll need the LAME mp3 encoder plug
in for Audacity, (also free).
