Hi All,
In the WAEDC RTTY contest last weekend I had a 10m contact with Scott VE1OP in
Nova Scotia which surprised us both. I wonder if any on the reflector can
suggest an explanation.
Below an exchange of e-mails between us.

Hi Bob...
Well, your signal really surprised me too...I was spinning around on 10
metres with only a few weak signals scattered around...Then I came upon
you...WOW...It was 20 over 9, with no QSB...I thought I must have run into a
local or something...It truly was amazing...It's not the first time you have
been really loud here when nobody else from your neck of the woods comes
through...I only use a 4 element tri-bander at 50 feet, and at the time I ran
into you, I was beaming about 240 degrees...I swung up to about 270 and you
were 20 over...We must be in the perfect locations to copy each other, I don't
know...I hope it continues, as VK and ZL land is rare here, except on 40 metres
early in the morning...
WAE RTTY is one of my favourites, but I was disappointed this year with
my score...Only half of last years...Porpagation was poor on Sunday which
really limited the QTC's...Oh well, it was still fun!! Looking forward to CQWW
CW...
73, and will look for you again...

Hi Scott,
I am intrigued with our 10m contact yesterday, your signal was 9+ stronger
than the best US sigs which were around 7-8.
We have two fixed 6 element 10m beams at Quartz Hill, one SP EU and the
other SP NA. I was using a splitter to feed both so as to catch JA
stations
as well as NA when we contacted.
I suspect that your signal may have come via the SP EU antenna - where
were
you beaming at the time?
The weekend certainly presented some surprises. 10m even opened to EU for
a
while - had me checking all bands constantly - really scratching for
contacts from the South Pacific as all paths to EU are polar.
