Tom,

This is an indicator of a DRL issue.  Daytime Running Lights (DRL) is a
very effective safety feature that often uses PWM at 50 or 60% to light the
headlights dimly for visibility.  If the switching transients or (more
likely) the current loop are not managed correctly, the result is coupled
noise.  Turning any of the running lights on cancels the DRL.  This is the
workaround.

Interfering with the DRL circuitry in any way may cause irreversible damage
to the vehicle.

For the long term solution, the OEM must be made aware through their
customer service program.  Please write to the address in the back of the
owner's manual.
