Fine for you maybe, but what if the other station now realizes his
mistake and changes his zone part way through the contest? Or doesn't
change it at all? Will he be disqualified? And if he is disqualified,
are all of his QSOs disqualified too? More importantly, if he is NOT
disqualified, are the other station's QSO's now legitimate?
I see this whole mess as two issues:
1. Copying what was sent correctly.
2. Getting multiplier credit correctly.
To me, these are separate issues. If I were in charge, three things
would happen:
1. If you copied the exchange correctly, even if the zone was wrong,
you would get point credit.
2. If everything else was correct (callsign, time) you would get mult
credit for whatever zone the station was actually in, assuming the other
station was legitimate otherwise.
3. The station sending the incorrect zone would be warned about it and
further transgressions would DQ him and any contacts made by him. DQing
is a drastic measure and probably would never be needed. After all, the
rules require sending your own zone - not somebody else's.
A good faith effort by the receiving station should not be penalized
when the receiving station did everything correctly.
I realize this is a contentious issue and it's not likely one solution
will please everybody. Other viewpoints are welcome.
