Guys,
One of the reasons I use true FSK rather than audio from a sound card for
RTTY is that it allivates the possibility of distortion from overdriving the
rig.
When I do hear a distorted signal I include in their report a message on one
of the macros: QSD QSD YOUR SIGNAL IS VERY DISTORTED QSD QSD
QSD is defined variously in several sources I have as:
QSD: Your keying is defective/Is my keying defective? (ARRL Operating
Manual)
QSD: Your signal is mutilated/Is my signal mutilated? US/British Combined
Operating Field Manual, 1942)
(Now you reflector nitpickers will argue that the "keying" is not defective
in these cases, but only the audio level. However, this is close enough in
meaning to describe what's wrong. Certainly, the signal is MUTILATED!)
If enough ops begin using QSD to describe a signal with DISTORTION, it will
come into common usage, both in the form of a statement and as a question.
