Tommy reminds us all of something that may be unique about the SECC, but
which certainly was on the minds of those who founded the club back in
1997; including Bill, W4AN.
Here's a quote from an article written by Dick, K2UFT who was president
of the SECC in 1997-98; (the entire article can be found on the SECC
website on the "About the SECC" page):
"The South East Contest Club may be unique in that it is primarily built
around the Internet. Virtually all members have Internet access. We
converse with each other using a reflector sponsored by Bill Fisher,
W4AN - this makes it extremely easy to maintain communication with members."
I particularly like how Dick closes the article:
" . . . . in keeping with our credo of simplicity, we don't have to lick
any stamps to get the news to members."
I wasn't a member at the time, but it's clear that using the reflector
in lieu of club meetings was one of the principles on which the club was
founded; and as Tommy accurately points out- that concept is still
working well for us today.
