I looked at the S9 vertical and it appears to be a 32 or 33 foot tall mast.
Unlike the 43 footer sold by MFJ and others with a matching section.
Should do Ok on 40 as N4GG points out BUT unless you know how to build a
matching network
its best to stay with one of the commercial verticals. Ray, W5EW selected a
6BTV made by Newtronics/Hustler that has been produced since the early
1960's. He put down a number of radials
and has done well on 40 to 10 including his favorite 30. Only contact on 80
was Midway just to see if it works there. Retail is about $190 but sells
for less which is 1/2 the price of most competitors.
A fancy vertical that I had up in the 1960's is the Hy-Tower Junior that
Fred W8FR modified to get the antenna back on the market. Its 80 to 10 and
with 8 radials of 50 feet long did Ok for me as a multiplier antenna in DX
Contests. It is $350 retail but maybe HRO or WB0W will sell for less.
