When I bought my Delta II, I found it extremely difficult to use
because of the backlighting problem. I spent many long hours
experimenting with room lighting, desk lights, reading lamps etc, and
was on the verge of selling it when the backlighting information
appeared on this list. Before I attempted the repair I checked with
the Mother Ship. Ten-Tec service advised me that since the backlight
is part of the display assembly and that the assembly was no longer
available, if I damaged the display while attempting to replace the
backlight, there was no way to fix it other than finding a junker rig
for parts. Ten-Tec would NOT be able to repair a damaged display
board.

I checked with a few people who had actually done the repair and
decided to order the EL panel sample kit and take the plunge.

</bigger></bigger></bigger></center>The repair is not difficult and is
well worth doing, but you must be (in the words of Elmer Fudd) Vewwy
Vewwy Caweful.

I have had more eye surgery than I care to think about, and have a
strange assortment of distorted areas and blank spots in my vision.
(this is not a complaint, just a statement of fact. I am thankful that
I can still see well enough to work as an electrician / instrument
repairman.) I need a clean clear display. Doing this repair made the
Delta II into a decent rig. I think TenTec would do well to make this
backlight fix available to all Delta II owners.
