Wrong.
I suspect the hams that are in to contesting, and mark the contests off on
the calendar use VOX, but the majority of hams do not use VOX.
I've been on Field day every year since the SB102 days of 1972, and never
saw an op use VOX.
I do see the advantage in a heavy contest, with 2 rigs and a keyboard, and
admit it is mandatory for anyone who is serious about the
contest...but...spin the dial on 20 meters, and the average Joe grabs his
D104 and yacks.  (with the preamp, that mic would not work with VOX anyway!)
