I have an XG1 but I see now they have an XG2 which supplies a "known" signal
on 3 bands (80/40/20) instead of just 40 meters, it is a little more dear at
$59 - There si a littel bit about it in QST Jan 2006 page 102 and on the
www.elecraft.com. site.

I often just keep my XG1 on my Orion external ant , its a quick check to see
when the rx goes off to never never land and sounds like it still
receiving
